2021 Spirit and Junior Spirit of Fiesta

The Spirit and Junior Spirit of Fiesta represent the charm and beauty of the culture of Old Spanish Days.

Santa Barbara has many local dance schools that instruct students in the multi-cultural dances of Spain, Mexico, and early California. Young performers dedicate countless hours preparing for this annual event and for an honor to represent Old Spanish Days as the “Spirit of Fiesta” and the “Junior Spirit of Fiesta.” The Spirit of Fiesta leads the annual parade in a traditional white dress and embodies the gaiety and vitality of Santa Barbara's annual summer festival. She has come to be the visual representation of Fiesta, a goodwill ambassador to local residents and visitors alike.

If your organization would like to request an appearance by the Spirit or Junior Spirit of Fiesta, please review the guidelines and submit a request form.  Due to health and safety concerns in 2021, all requests are subject to approval and must include precautions for social distancing.

2021 Spirit of Fiesta - Ysabella Yturralde

Ysabella Grace Yturralde is a 16 year old junior at San Marcos High School and attends the Accelerated Academic Program of Leadership and Enrichment. She works diligently maintaining a 4.5 GPA and volunteering with the Santa Barbara Assistance League.

Ysabella has a true passion for flamenco. She is moved by the music, the dance and bringing joy to those around her. This pursuit began under the direction of Linda Vega for 11 years and she now continues to thrive under the guidance of Maria Bermudez.

Another delight for Ysabella has been teaching the 3-7 year olds at the Maria Bermudez Flamenco Arts Studio for the past four years. In her free time, she loves leisure at the beach with friends and family.

Old Spanish Days also honored her as the Junior Spirit in 2015.

It is a dream come true and a great pleasure for Ysabella to represent Santa Barbara as your 2021 Spirit of Fiesta.

2021 Junior Spirit of Fiesta- Savannah Hoover

Savannah Hoover is a 9-year-old 3rd grader at Hollister School.  She is the youngest of four with three older brothers.  Savannah started flamenco dancing when she was just three years old and instantly fell in love with the music, the platform it gave her to show her emotions and the opportunity to perform in front of an audience.  Savannah’s favorite part of Flamenco is seeing the joy and smiles it brings to faces of those who are watching.

When Savannah was just 5-years-old she walked up to her Dance Director Daniela Zermeno at the El Desfile de Los Ninos and told her “next year I want to do a solo with a fan”.  Her dream has been to follow in the footsteps of all of the beautiful Spirits and Junior Spirits she has grown up watching and be a part of Old Spanish days history and its rich traditions.

In addition to Flamenco, Savannah is a conscientious student who loves to learn and especially enjoys art.  In addition to Flamenco she has many other interests including soccer, basketball, tennis and cheering on her big brothers at all of their numerous games far and near!

Savannah has a nurturing spirit.  She loves animals and hopes to have a job helping animals one day. She also looks forward to teaching dance as soon as she is old enough.

Savannah is thrilled and deeply honored to represent Old Spanish Days and the Santa Barbara community as your 2021 Junior Spirit of Fiesta.
